What is Membership?

Membership is a covenant that enables us to partner together in more significant ways.

The word covenant means in it together. In a covenant, two parties enter into an agreement that establishes and defines the nature of the relationship.

God is a covenant maker and keeper.  Covenants are to His people as roots are to trees.  Entering into a covenant with a specific group of believers promotes accountability, fosters life-giving relationships, and encourages personal investment.

In addition to these inherent benefits of covenant relationships, becoming a member equips you with a both a voice and a vote when it comes to decisions that affect our church family.

Already a Member?

At Emmanuel, we renew our membership covenant each year. Annual membership renewal:

  • Puts a conversation on the calendar
  • Ensures all members are committing to the same covenant
  • Positions us to develop helpful discipleship tools in the future
  • Keeps our membership roster accurate

In preparation for our Annual Member Meeting on February 22, please renew your membership with the paper form found in your Bulletin or through the link below.

Lay Leaders

At our Annual Meeting, we will be electing new lay leaders.

See below for a description of how each of our lay leader positions serves our community and for a list of those being put forward:

Elder Board: Our Elder Board is a representative Board with real authority. The elders may be called upon to administrate, lead, and/or mediate conflict as specified in our constitution. However, their primary purpose is to represent the congregation as they provide candid feedback in confidential matters, weigh in on significant decisions, and hold the Senior Pastor accountable to God-honoring leadership.

Pastoral Relations Committee: The PRC exists to ensure that our congregation cares for the Senior Pastor the way we want our Senior Pastor to care for the congregation. The PRC prays for the Senior Pastor and his/her family, mediates conflict when appropriate, and ensures that the Senior Pastor is able to focus on his/her unique responsibilities and most essential tasks.

Nominating Committee: Prior to congregational vote, these elected representatives engage in a prayerful and careful candidate selection process. Names of candidates are published in advance so members can familiarize themselves with the candidates and pass along concerns to the Nominating Committee prior to congregational vote.

Candidate for Elder Board:

Greg Herman lives in Shoreview with his wife Emily, son Brady and daughter Kata. He works in Marketing for Fetch after spending the previous 12 years at Target. At ECC, he has been a member of the worship team, welcome team, communications team, and the Elder Board. Greg and Emily have been a part of ECC since its launch in 2007 and have loved seeing their kids begin volunteering as well.

Candidate for PRC:

Janet Rangoonwala grew up in rural Minnesota and had no idea what adventures lay ahead of her. Since 1982 she has served with Cru in Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and USA and enjoys the ministry of discipleship, prayer and admin. Janet and her husband, Abid, live in Shoreview and have 4 adult children and 10 grandchildren who bring much joy to their lives.

Candidates for Nominating Committee:

Suzy Baker lives in Hugo with her husband John and their two teenagers. Suzy is a kitchen manager in White Bear Lake Area Schools and previously worked for her childhood church’s Youth and Missions departments. She loves helping lead a small church and volunteering with the high school on Wednesday nights.

Megan De Haan and her husband Tim live in Blaine with their four kids. She is a stay-at-home mom and loves the opportunity to spend time with her kids and volunteer at their schools. Megan enjoys playing board games, hiking, swimming, and exploring all the outdoor fun that MN has to offer. She has been attending ECC since 2012 and has loved hosting Women’s Game Night each month.

Ann Mulfinger and her husband, Taylor, live in Shoreview with their two sons, Jonas and Owen. During the week, Ann can be found consulting for a school catering company, working in the sensory lab at Land O Lakes, and volunteering with the PTA and in her kids’ classrooms. In her free time she enjoys reading, baking, and playing games with her family. A member of ECC since 2023, Ann has been a part of a small church and volunteered on the Welcome Team.

Gary Vosen and his wife, Sandy, live in Lino Lakes. They have two children and two grandchildren. Gary is retired from working in manufacturing as a quality technician. He enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, stargazing, and bonfires. Gary serves on the connect and care teams.
